Djabissa, a coastal community in Maputo, Mozambique, has faced significant environmental challenges due to deforestation, illegal logging, and agricultural pressures. These issues have left the land and its people vulnerable.
At Carma, we’re working with local partners to plant mangroves in Djabissa, aiming to reverse the damage and restore the ecosystem. Mangroves are crucial—they protect shorelines, provide habitats for diverse species, and play a key role in carbon sequestration.
Our approach focuses on more than just planting trees. We’re investing in education and employing local communities, helping them understand the importance of mangroves and encouraging sustainable practices. This effort is not only restoring forests but also providing stable income for families and supporting sustainable fishing, which is vital for the community.
By restoring mangroves, we’re also helping to protect the coastline from erosion, safeguarding the land and the people who live there.
