For a business to be truly sustainable, you need to invest in the environment and work towards creating positive social impact so you can strengthen your ESG strategy and ensure your business moves with purpose.
Having a strong ESG strategy is not only good for the environment and people but is good for your business. A study conducted by Kantar, found that since 2023, there has been an increase in eco-active (22%) and eco-considerer (40%) consumers compared to the previous year.
This blog will explore one of the ways you can enhance your sustainability methods in business through tree planting plans and the many options your businesses can invest in today.
If you are an individual or a family you can click here to find out more about those plans.

What are tree planting plans?
Tree planting plans act as any normal subscription service in which you pay a monthly fee and in return trees are planted across the world or in the UK.
At Carma, we offer multiple options for our tree planting plans and we have ones for businesses as a whole or you can even purchase one subscription each for every one of your employees.
Plans start from £4.95 + VAT and begin from planting 10 trees and 2 kelp per month.
Types of tree planting plans:
There are two types of tree planting plans at Carma depending on what your budget and goals are will depend on which plan you take out. In this section, we will explain your options and which plan is suitable for you.
Employee Plans
Employee plans give businesses the opportunity to invest in their employees' and the planet simultaneously. Companies can purchase a plan for each member of the team and support reforestation projects and biodiversity enhancements.
With each Carma plan, trees and kelp are planted, contributing not only to environmental restoration but also to the empowerment of communities, including veterans in the UK and increased employment opportunities in impoverished areas.
Who the plans are for: These plans are great for businesses who have 40 employees or less and are just beginning their sustainability journey.

These plans boost employee engagement: 69% of employed adults expressed a desire for their companies to invest in sustainability efforts (Source)
This means that employees are actively seeking businesses who invest in sustainability and it is important to them. So, what better way to engage employees by investing in their own plan and they can watch their impact grow?
Tree planting plans offer flexibility to choose from three subscription models so you can choose the best option for your business, as your business is different and your operations as well as supply chain will be different and will determine how many trees you need to plant each month.
For example, if your company is fully remote, therefore employees are not traveling by car each day you may opt for the remote subscription for all of your employees.
Impact Plans:
Impact plans are having one subscription for the business as opposed to multiple for each employee.
Instead of planting from 10 trees, your one subscription will plant from 100 trees and 10 kelp per month.
This plan is suitable for: Businesses with less than 40 employees who are looking to begin or enhance their sustainability strategy.

Support biodiversity projects across the world: Restore natural habitats and promote biodiversity within your business operations and beyond. Your plan will improve biodiversity in the UK (which is the most nature-depleted places in the world) Canada in which we plant our kelp and Kenya for your overseas trees.
Easy and Affordable: This is a very simple way to make a positive impact on the environment whilst helping your business establish your ESG strategy. All you need to do is select your plan and then sit back and watch as your businesses forest grows.
Environmental benefits of a sustainability plan:
There are many environmental benefits to investing in a sustainability plan, such as our employee or impact plans. Let’s break it down.
Planting overseas trees: Most of our overseas projects are restoring mangrove forests in countries such as Kenya.
According to the World Resources Institute, an estimated 35% of the world's mangrove forests have been lost since the 1980s. This is due to climate change and deforestation.
Deforestation is harmful to the environment because trees absorb carbon, so once they are cut down this results in increased greenhouse gas emission.
However, nature based solutions such as tree planting could contribute up to 30 - 50% of overall global decarbonisation.
Planting UK Trees: The UK has one of the lowest forest cover rates in Europe, meaning there is significant potential to increase carbon capture by planting more trees. This is shown by Bluepatch who stated that between 2001 & 2021, the UK lost 105,000 hectares of tree cover. This equates to a 6.9% decrease overall.
Furthermore, the UKs biodiversity loss is an issue. According to the National biodiversity network since 1970, the abundance of species studied has declined on average by 19%.
Planting Kelp: Kelp forests thrive in the cool, nutrient-rich waters along rocky coastlines in the Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic Oceans.
They create expansive canopies above the seafloor that shelter and nourish thousands of marine species. Despite their ecological importance, kelp forests worldwide are under threat; over the last fifty years, more than 40% of these forests have been lost due to climate change, pollution, and overexploitation.
Kelp acts as a significant carbon sink, absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and thus mitigating the effects of climate change. Restoring these forests preserves biodiversity, supports local fisheries, and enhances the global effort to combat environmental degradation.
Social Value of Investing in Sustainability Plans
With the planting of trees, it creates jobs and fosters a sense of community in where trees have been planted.
For every 100 trees we plant this creates one workday of employment. For our UK trees, we support veterans' which enables them to use nature based therapy as a key part of their resettlement journey.
For our overseas tree planting, we work with veritree who work with communities who work on restoring areas all over the world.
Tree and kelp planting creates jobs whilst helping the area's local economy. For example, due to a mangrove forest being rich in biodiversity, mangrove forests will provide fishing grounds for local people. Helping to create additional income streams, including sustainable harvests from the mangrove forests.
